Four Don't-Miss Activities In Maui

By Ella Hemmings

If you soon will be heading to Maui, you probably cannot wait to soak up some rays and enjoy a few relaxing days in the warm island waters. While that is a great way to spend your time in Maui, there are a few other adventures that shouldn't be ignored.

1. Take A Morning Hike To Haleakala

Long ago, Haleakala erupted and created a huge crater. Today this volcano, located at 10,000 feet elevation in Haleakala National Park, is one of the top destinations for travelers to Maui. If you are planning to visit the crater, consider getting up around 3 a.m. and driving to the park and arriving prior to sunrise. Once you reach the top, you can watch as a night sky filled with stars transforms into a glorious sunrise. After the amazing sunrise, spend a few hours hiking around the crater, which is fascinating and the largest dormant volcano on Earth.

2. Find Your Way To Hana

Maui is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty, and you can enjoy some of its most scenic spots along the road to Hana. In general, this rugged journey begins in the village of Paia. From there, it's a 45-mile drive to Hana, but don't expect to simply zip down the highway and be there in an hour. The two-lane highway is extremely windy and there are many single-lane bridges to cross. If you do it right, it takes about 10 hours to journey to Hana and back, and you'll want to pack a lunch, water and snacks. You also can purchase a guided tour on CD to enjoy along the way, as you stop and look at rugged coves, sandy beaches and trek to amazing waterfalls. If you truly want to take your time, consider spending a night in Hana and then returning the next day.

3. Enjoy Maui From The Sea

The views from the beach or the top of Haleakala are spectacular to be sure, but you also can enjoy some fantastic views out at sea. Consider booking a boat trip or whale watching adventure and you'll get a look at the island from another perspective. Kayaking is another option, and kayak treks are quite popular in Maui.

4. Share A Kiss & Say "I Do"

If you were planning on taking the plunge and getting married anyway, there are few better places on earth to tie the knot than Maui. Destination weddings often seem more like a dream than a feasible reality, but these nuptials actually can cost less than a wedding at home and certainly are less trouble and hassle. After all, at home you have to handle hundreds of details yourself while with a destination wedding, you will hire a Maui wedding coordinator to handle the details.

At Love Maui Weddings, this team of Maui wedding planners has been helping couples plan weddings of all sizes, as well as elopements and vow renewals for more than 25 years. They can help you plan a beachfront ceremony, a ceremony at a botanical garden, at an oceanfront resort or anywhere your heart desires. Whether the ceremony includes a large party or just the two of you, they also have some amazing wedding packages that will make your day truly spectacular.
