Keep Your Kitty Occupied With Small Apartment Cat Pole

By Sarah Hughes

Even though some people enjoy living in a small place, the problem is that there is little room for much else. If a person has interests or things related to things they enjoy, like a shoe collection, space can get tight. Pets can be the perfect roommates but when there is no backyard, keeping them occupied, can be tricky. Many pet owners find that using things, like a small apartment cat pole or indoor trees can serve a purpose for those whose friends are on the active side.

Cat owners usually want their pet to enjoy life as much as possible but it can hard to set boundaries with an animal that has a history of existing outdoors. Although domesticated cats are not quite as active as their wilder relatives, many breeds appreciate a little action. Cat poles and trees often provide this.

Since cats are hunters by nature, they will often seek objects that are seen as prey. Other times, their frequent body stretch sessions are not enough, as they want to give a piece of furniture a special rub. Unless a person wants to constantly replace things around the home, getting a cat pole or tree is a good idea.

Since they cannot distinguish expensive items from junk, creating distractions will most likely help them to create their own world. Poles and cat trees are great for regular physical activity that can distract felines from feeling their way around the house. If a person works away from home, an energetic cat can turn things upside down.

The other advantage is that some poles or cat trees can be adjusted to reach the ceiling. This gives cats a wide view of their surroundings. Although the cat may not do anything other than stare into space, or observe their human, this view gives them a sense of control.

Although going up to the ceiling may be a practical choice, not all cats will respond the same. Chubby cats may not have the stamina since there is pressure on their legs. This is why an adjustable pole is best because it can be lengthened as the cat loses those extra inches around their waistline.

Getting weight down is very important, as cat diabetes and other ailments that affect internal organs can interfere with their quality of life. It helps to keep more water nearby and resist the urge to feed them outside of cat food. Outside of a tree or tower, it also helps to engage them in some activity at least three times a week.

While some people prefer to set up in the living room, this may not be the best place. There are cat poles that can be installed over doors but if kitty is on the heavier side, it may be best to choose something is sturdy and will remain grounded. Some single poles may not work but a tree may be more fitting. If in doubt, a veterinarian or cat behaviorist may have some suggestions that are likely to work.
