How To Bend Copper Pipe

By Hedrick Lepsch

If you are redoing some of the copper pipes in your house you may not want to add another joint to get around a corner. Luckily for you one of the great qualities of copper is that it is malleable and can be bent with a simple hand tool.

There are a few items that everybody would be wise to keep around the house just in case something needs a quick fix. These tools are cheap and easily kept in a junk drawer or even in a file cabinet somewhere in the office. Stock up on these essential items and you'll be ready for almost any sticky situation:

Duct Tape This is the one item that everybody knows about. Duct tape is perfect for its versatility and durability. Use it when you need to mend broken objects that could use a strong adhesive tape. NASA and the U.S. Military both utilize duct tape for quick fixes.

Step 2 - Install the Drip Edge While this may not be necessary it will help the roof last longer and perform better in inclement weather. You will want to lay the drip edge along the front and back of the roof. This drip edge is laid down flush with edge of the roof over top the roofing felt. Nail down the drip edge with your one inch roofing nails. Run the drip edge up the side of the roof and when you get to the peak you will want to cut the bottom phalange of the drip edge and bend it over peak of the roof. When you lay down another piece of drip edge make sure that it overlaps the first by about three inches. Snip off the excess drip edge at the corner.

Step 2 Lock in the Pipe Slide the larger arm of the bender to a 90 degree angle and bring the holding clip back down clipping it into place. Pull the forming handle back to 180 degrees so the clip falls into position at a 90 degree angle with the forming handle.

They quickly realized that the product had immense house-hold applicability and began producing it for the public. Spray it on any mechanism that may need lubricant. It typically costs between five and eight dollars a can.

If you still cannot bend the pipe you probably will need a pneumatic bender to do the job. The angle of the bend will be indicated by the calibration on the forming wheel. After you have bent the pipe release the forming handle and draw it back to the table so that the two handles are again 180 degrees. Remove the holding clip and slide the pipe out of the holding shoe. Remember these are general instructions and you should follow the manual that was provided with your tool.

Basic Tool Kit For your average household repair, you will need a basic toolkit. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just a hammer, some screwdrivers, a wrench or two and some pliers. Most problems can be corrected with these simple tools. This set shouldn't cost you more than thirty to fifty bucks.

With your duct tape, WD-40, Flex Seal and some basic tools, you have all you need to take care of almost any problem around the house or office. A small investment in these few items will be well worth it in the long run.
