Depending on the location and the nature of work they do, these workers may be armed with law enforcement tools such as pepper spray, handcuffs, and handguns. A longer and very exhaustive training is needed for personnel meant to carry weapons than those who never carry weapons.

In most states in the United States and many other countries around the world, one must have a license to work in this field. Eligibility to apply for a license usually varies from one state to another. However, in most states, one needs to be above the age of 18 years. One must also have a clean criminal record besides being able to pass a drug test.

For license application, drug screening is a must. When a person is already employed, drug screening may also be tested randomly. Most employers and firms do drug screening thoroughly and use random drug testing policy. Employees may be fired when they do not pass drug tests or they may be allocated time to find assistance. Very strict licensure obligations are applied to personnel who carry firearms.

Statistics indicate that workers in this field make approximately 14 dollars an hour. This is an equivalent of about 28, 500 dollars in a year. The need to protect property and individuals has created a continuous demand for guards. Every year, the number of officers employed increases steadily. This is expected to continue happening.
