Different Methods Of Deck Waterproofing Laguna Beach And Their Benefits And Limitations

By Donna Moore

Homeowners who have the privilege of owning an outdoor deck in their homes enjoy a lot during summer. This is attributed to the fact that seating in this area is very comfortable while enjoying the weather with friends and family. Wood is the most common material used to construct outdoor decks which are exposed to risks of decaying when exposed to water. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the decks in perfect conditions to avoid them from getting damaged. This article will discuss the types of deck waterproofing Laguna Beach, their advantages and disadvantages.

One of the methods is using surface coatings. This method seeks to create an impermeable layer over the surface of the wood to avoid any moisture from penetrating into the surface of the wood to cause decay. For this method to be fully effective, the client must ensure that they cover all the gapped wood blocks on the surface with tongue plywood which should be stuck and screwed on the surface before applying the coating.

The merit of using this intervention is that it saves a lot of costs. The surface coatings are not expensive to acquire therefore, they are affordable for all clients. This intervention also does not require one to have special skills to conduct it. This makes it easy for the clients to carry out this process effectively. Most of the coatings are either liquids of rubber products, fiberglass resins or cement based.

Using waterproof membranes is also another method. This method basically involves the use of solid sheets that are moisture resistant to protect the surface of the delicate wood surface. In this method, the membrane is used to cover the entire wooden surface to avoid any moisture from coming into contact with the wood surface.

This method is very efficient if installed by a qualified expert. It is more durable than the surface coating as it can protect the wood surface for up to fifteen years. Contrasted with the surface coating, this method is more expensive because its materials are more expensive and it requires expert labor which may add to the expenses. However, the sheets used in this method may appear unattractive over time due to fading.

Another intervention is locking decking which replaces wood blocks with extruded aluminum planks. This is one of the most durable interventions because it involves use of aluminum waterproof solutions to protect the wood surface from coming into contact with moisture to avoid decay. This intervention also makes the basking space look attractive.

This method is very effective as it provides a long-term solution for the clients. However, this method is very expensive, and not all clients can afford to fund it. This is because it is very labor intensive and the materials needed are expensive. Many middle-income earners prefer other cost-efficient methods to deal with this condition despite the fact that this method is durable and reliable.

Another intervention for is the use of aesthetics. Using aesthetics helps maintain the natural grain appearance of the wood surface thus, retaining its natural look. Most of these aesthetics are transparent and do not get scratched or marred easily. However, the aesthetics used may require regular maintenance especially when exposed to direct sunlight, but they are relatively cheap.
