By Stacey Burt

Most household items usually are of wooden material. In the course of using them; they often come into contact with moisture and other things; that may lead to growth of mold. Molds can be very stubborn to remove when they take long on the surface. Therefore cleaning wooden surfaces would prevent the growth of molds. These are some of the ways of mold removal from wood that would maintain the wooden item.

Cleaning by use of sodium bicarbonate, bicarbonate is easily accessible and also meets safety standards when kids and pets are in the house. Prepare a paste by combining the baking soda and water in definite ratios, and then apply it to the affected area and leave it to dry. Scrub the area gently with a brush then clean the area; for a bigger area, vacuum utilizing HEPA filters. Do the same procedure again but now, put the mixture into a sprinkler bottle, spray the affected area and clean it off with water. Thereafter reapply the water- bicarbonate solution and allow it to dry up.

Using vinegar, vinegar is also readily available and has mild acidic property that helps in the removal of molds. You won't need any spray bottles; just pour the white distilled vinegar on an unused towel then wipe onto the affected area and leave it to dry.

Using tea tree oil- Before using it, wear a protective cover to minimize the chance of skin irritation. Mix a teaspoon full of the tea tree oil with a cup of water in a bowl and put it in a spray bottle. If you lack a spray bottle, just dampen an old towel into the solution in a bowl and apply it to the affected area.

Use of hydrogen peroxide- It is a non- fatal material that serves well as an antiseptic and an anti-fungal administrator. Put a small amount of the hydrogen peroxide in a water bottle and shake it thoroughly. In a like manner, mix up the solutions in a vessel and soak a disposable towel. Wipe the region using the wet cloth and for ten minutes let it dry. For adamant stains, clean gently with a brush then swab any remains of mold and leave it to dry.

Utilizing ammonium hydroxide- When getting rid of molds by ammonia, you will need to wear protective attire and leave doors and windows open. Thereafter mix the ammonia with water proportionately and put the solution into a sprinkler bottle. Sprinkle the affected places equitably and let it sit for around five to ten minutes. After that, scrub the place using a little brush and afterward wipe it with a clean material. Ammonia is very dangerous hence handle with care.

Using bleach- wear protective clothing and open windows and doors. Then thoroughly mix a cup of bleach with at least one gallons of water in a bowl. Pour it into a spray bottle and apply it to the affected area evenly. After that, wipe it with a sponge, towel, and for bigger areas, use HEPA filters to vacuum. Remember not to rinse the area as it will limit the time the bleach will take to inhibit the growth of the molds.

Lastly, ensure that you keep your surfaces dry to counteract the development of fungi. A clean and dry wood surface rarely attracts mold, unlike wet wooden surfaces.
