What Are Other Options For A Dog Cone Alternative

By Lucia Weeks

Accidents can happen to anyone. And it can even happen to your pets. There are times that it would just be a simple sprain while others would need surgery for it to heal. In cases like these, the normal behavior of most canines is to scratch and bite the itch that they feel on the wounds that they have. But this must not be done because it will only make matters worst.

If these events happen, you have to make sure that their wounds are protected through the use of E collars. You do not want them to endure another surgery. But a cone is not something that you can use as often as you want. There will always be situations when the cone would not be applicable. That is why you should turn to dog cone alternative for assistance.

One of the best substitutes to the cones are blow up pillows. Its appearance can be compared to those pillows that you usually take with you when you go for a flight. The only difference is that it is smaller to fit the necks of your pets. But if you have bigger canines, you have to look for another option as they would easily remove it from their necks.

You can also utilize neck braces. It would appear just like the ones that are used by humans when they have had accidents. This is an effective way of dissuading them in biting themselves because their head movement would be limited. But if the wounds are located in the upper arm or in the face, this is not something that could work at all. All they have to do is to simply scratch it.

Other people would find it weird but old shirts could work as protection. This way, you do not have to purchase other equipment. All you have to do is make them wear it the way you let them wear their own clothes and tie the loose end so that it would not slip off. For leg wounds, old socks will do the trick.

If you have no idea when a cone would not be the perfect choice, you have to know the warning signs so that you can avoid huge damage. Overly active dogs are not the ideal ones for a cone. They have the capacity to go wild and run around too much that they can instantly ruin the e collars. Usually it would fall off and if you have no idea, the wound could worsen a lot.

Bigger dogs need to have the alternatives as protection. They can easily break away from the hold of the cones. If you are thinking of making the wear a new one, you would be on the losing side. And it would be a very impractical move on your part.

Being uncomfortable while wearing the cone for the first time is the most common reaction that you will get out of them. But if they are starting to get violent with other things through the use of their cones, this is definitely not a good sign. And this would call for a substitute.

There are also times that they would want you to feel the displease of their current situation. Some of the owners could tell you that they are the object of cone smashing. It would be better to avoid prevent them from hurting you by choosing another option.
