A Buyer's Guide To Finding Healthy Anatolian Shepherd Puppies For Sale

By Richard Bailey

Dogs can be wonderful companions and friends. Working dogs can be a definite asset as they love to perform for and assist their humans. Anatolian shepherd puppies for sale may be difficult to track down but if you can find a good breeder you will be very happy with the pup you get from them. Here are some tips and tricks that you can use to pick the right dog for your needs and lifestyle.

These dogs are large and intelligent. They have been used for centuries as herding and guard dogs in Turkey and the surrounding areas. They are large dogs that can reach 32 inches in height and can weigh as much as 143 pounds. Because they are large, powerful animals it is important for you to train pups properly so that they are easy to control when they are fully mature.

One drawback to finding puppies from this breed is that it is not as well known as other dog breeds may be. This may make puppies quite expensive and it may also mean that you will need to travel a fair distance in order to get your puppy. This isn't always a bad thing, though. It can mean that your pups will be healthy and not subject to many of the problems that arise when a particular type of dog is bred too much.

Every purebred dog has a chance of having health issues. Unlike some breeds, Anatolian Shepherds are fairly healthy although they do tend to have hip problems. Hip dysplasia can lead to pain, lameness and other problems so it is good to be prepared for the fact that your dog may end up developing it.

Once you have found a breeder that has pups for sale it is time to start asking some questions. One thing to ask about is whether the parents have been checked for any genetic health problems such as hip issues. A reputable breeder will not allow animals that have serious health issues to reproduce.

The age that a breeder sends pups home at is also important. You may want to get your new canine companion as soon as you can but you need to realize that if a pup is allowed to stay with its' mother until it is older then it will likely have a better temperament and will make a better, more well-rounded companion for you.

While some individuals are happy to simply pick up a pup when they are ready to go home others want to meet the litter and choose which pup has the best personality for them. You need to think about whether you want a more dominant and outgoing dog or one that is more timid and reserved. Each personality will work well if it is placed in the right kind of home environment.

It can be hard to wait to bring your new pup home. If you do have to wait you might be able to get the breeder to send you pictures or videos of your new canine as it is growing and interacting with it's litter mates. Then, before you know it, it will be time to bring your furry bundle of joy home.
